Background: Food Protein-Induced Enterocolitis Syndrome (FPIES) is a non-IgE-mediated food allergy that primarily affects children in the first year of life. Usually the symptoms of ruptured when infant formula or solid foods are introduced for the first time, but they may also appear on an exclusively breastfed baby, because the elements of the trigger, especially cow’s milk protein, can be delivered by the mother’s milk as well. FPIES in breastfed babies is a clinical condition which is very rare and only a few cases have been reported in the medical literature.
Case Presentation: We describe two cases FPIES in infants exclusively breastfed. The first was a two-month baby with a brief history of vomiting and diarrhea were submitted to the Ministry of Emergency in septic-like conditions. The main laboratory findings are a significant increase in methemoglobin (13%). Clinically, we note that, when breastfeeding was stopped, diarrhea increased dramatically, and vice versa when the mother’s milk was reintroduced. Amino acid-based formula is allowed complete normalization of symptoms. The second one is a baby three-month-old admitted for 3-day history of persistent vomiting and diarrhea. A blood test showed a raised level of methemoglobin (7%). An esophagogastroduodenoscopy performed and biopsies show eosinophilic infiltration of duodenal mucosa. Diet exception and the mother-amino acid-based formula is allowed rapid regularization of bowel function.
Conclusion: We are looking for all cases in infants exclusively breastfed FPIES reported in the medical literature, identifying eight patients, with an average age of 3 months (range 15 days – 6 months). Most of the cases initially diagnosed as gastroenteritis or sepsis, five cases characterized by acute and chronic scenarios cow’s milk is the most frequently involved in food. Methemoglobin was never tested. Oral food challenge test was performed on two patients. FPIES in exclusively breastfed infants is a rare condition, in the presence of a compatible history and symptoms, should be considered also in infants exclusively breastfed. Evaluation of methemoglobin can simplify the diagnostic process.
3D-Printed Precision Cells Tissue Scaffolds Mimicking original compositions and Mechanics
cellular dynamics modeled by the 3D architecture and mechanics of the extracellular matrix (ECM) and vice versa. These cell-ECM interactions in both directions is the basis for all important networks, many of which have been studied in a 2D environment over the last decade. Experimental approaches to mimic in vivo cell niches in 3D with the highest biological suitability and resolution can enable new insights into cell-ECM interactions including proliferation, differentiation, migration, and invasion test. Here, the two-photon stereolithography adopted to print up to mm-sized high precision 3D cell scaffold at micrometer resolution with defined mechanical properties of resin-based proteins such as bovine serum albumin or gelatin methacryloyl. By modifying the manufacturing process including a two-pass printing or cross-post-print, high-precision scaffold with a variety of Young’s modulus ranging 7-300 kPa printed and measured by atomic force microscopy. The impact of various topographic scaffolding on the dynamics of colonizing cells is observed using mouse myoblast cells and 3D-lung fibroblast microtissue replica colonized with human primary lung. This approach will allow for the systematic investigation of single-cell and tissue dynamics in response to cues defined mechanical and bio-molecules and ultimately scalable to the full organ.
The relationship between bone density value, Primer Stability and Analysis of Dental Implant histomorphometric Osteotomy place in Upper Jaw
Introduction: sufficient bone volume and bone quality characteristics is a necessary precondition to guarantee optimal mechanical stability of the implant and subsequent osseointegration.
Objective: The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between bone density values obtained by cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT), the primary stability of dental implants and histomorphometric analysis of bone quality.
Materials and methods: After the tooth extraction, preservation socket with decor-dried allograft bone or fibrin (PRF) protein was performed on 30 patients with 30 teeth upper jaw in the region of the second premolar second premolar. Four months after the procedure, CBCT is used to assess bone density (Hounsfield units) in the extraction area. Thirty samples of bone harvested from the site of the implant using a trephine drill. They were analyzed with the software Image J. Immediately after placing the implant, implant stability quotient is measured using IDX Osstell device.
Results: The results showed a significant correlation between bone density and primary stability along the vestibulo-oral (r = 0.392, p = 0.032) and mesiodistal axis (r = 0.407, p = 0.026). Bone density is also strongly correlated with the percentage of newly formed bone (r = 0.776, p <0.001).
